President’s Report AGM Northern Panthers Rugby Union Club 2017

I am proud of the Club’s achievements since the last AGM. We had on field success with premierships for our Under 16 and women’s teams and other sides featuring in the finals. We had a number of State Representatives and two more boys were selected in Australian Schools or A teams. Two other boys debuting for the Melbourne Rebels brings the total of junior players from our Club to pull on the Rebels jersey to three. It is also wonderful to know that another of our ex juniors will soon debut for the Australian Sevens team. However, the on field success that pleases me the most is the formation of a youth girls’ team and our pathway juniors.
I take the opportunity to thank the coaching and managerial staff for making the on field success a possibility and in particular for instilling rugby values of fair play and sportsmanship in the young people who play the game and represent this community and our club.
Though we are still to enjoy a full year in our new premises, it is great to have such a facility and we are beginning to realise the potential that our Club Rooms have to generate income. Clearly having six changing rooms and three fields is something that is available to few clubs in Australia. We must strive to have the facilities utilised better. Rugby dinners, night games and summer touch and rugby programmes need to be organised over the coming months.
I would also like to thank Committee members for their tireless work over the past year. In particular, to Natalie Coward, who has decided to step down. She has battled on through poor health to perform several roles, not just the role of secretary, which is big enough by itself and she will be missed. Of course, being a committee member of this club often means performing more than one duty and while I take this opportunity to thank all Committee members for their hard work I hope there are people willing to step in and support us in the day to day running of the Club.
This Club has the capacity to build an exciting future. Having a Colts team for the first time in a number of years means that we can once again become a strong senior Club as well as a strong junior club so now is the time to step up and be part of this future.
